Milan

Oh, Milaano. Tõttöelda tuli otsus kalliks saanud töökaalsasega reisile ning just nimelt Itaaliasse minna üsnagi spontaanselt.

Oh Milano. Truth to be told, the decision to go to Italy with my dear colleague came by quite spontaneously. We were looking at each other during one break at work, made jokes about going and in the end...ended up going! We were lucky enough to find very cheap tickets from WizzAir, booked a hotel (B&B Hotels, San Siro - super happy with the choice!) and started to slowly count down the days left until our small getaway.

When I am completely honest with you, apart from Milan being one of the infamous fashion capitals of the world, I did not think much of the city itself beforehand. I didn't create any big expectations like I would have maybe had created thinking of Rome or Venice and their well-known touristic attractions. Of course I could not wait until I got to fill my tummy with all the delicious local cuisine and wine and enjoy what the life of Milan could offer us. But to my surprise, Milan was much more than that - a lovely mixture of modern and old, filled with beautiful nuances felt with every step taken on the streets. Unexpectedly, it made me feel this feeling only a few places have been able to make me feel. Something inbetween utter happiness and feeling of home. All emotions were probably intensified also by the amazing weather, as on most days the temperature went over 30 degrees Celsius. During daytime the sun tenderly kissed (or in Lidia's case, burnt) the skin, but in the evening it created this warm and romantic haze over the streets. Simply beautiful.

Olime seal kokku kolm päeva ning kolm ööd (üks nendest päevadest sai veedetud küll Como järve ääres, aga sellest hiljem) - meie arvates ideaalne arv päevi, et kõike olulisemat näha ning pisut ka ilma igasuguse ajalise piiranguta ringi seigelda.
Kuid mida tasuks kindlasti näha:

We spent in total three days and nights in Italy, our of which one day was spent at lake Como, but that deserves to have its own separate post later on. In our opinion it was the perfect amount of days to see the most imporant things, but also explore without any time restraints. But what you should definitely go and see:
  • Naviglio Grande.
  •   Naviglio Grande. That was probably my most favourite part of Milan in altogether. We arrived  at the canal just by the time of sunset and our timing made the whole experience simply magical. The sky was painted in beautiful pinkish-bluish shadows, our ears caught on the lovely mixture of street artists, people's chatter and movements, the water was sparkling in different colours and my soul was filled with such peace I haven't felt in a long, long time. In addition, the area contains tons of cute cafes and bars to enjoy your dinner or a glass of wine at. On top of everything, most of those places were catered by cute male waiters, whose politeness and eye to the smallest details just add up to the experience.

  • Duomo di Milano. Tegemist on tõenäoliselt ühe kõige enam külastatava turismiaktraktsiooniga Milaanos. Kui me viimaks toomkiriku-esisele platsile enda sammud seadsime, võttis viimase kogu hiilguses nägemine ikka korralikult pahviks.
This one is probably one of the most visited tourism attractions in Milan, but when we finally made our steps to the square located in front of the cathedreal, I could understand why. It is simply majestic and took my breath away. I am amazed by how statuesque a building can have, but the Duomo was certainly one standing tall in pride. I am often not the biggest fan of churches or cathedreals, but the Duomo di Milano is definitely worth the visit.

  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
  •  Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The latter is one of the oldest shopping centers in the world and stands just a few steps away from the Duomo di Milano. It is probably very hard to miss - just follow the crowds moving through. This must be one of those places that any person with even a slight shopping or fashion bug in them will love. The area around the Galleria itself is an array of of high end fashion stores (name any and you will find it), but there are also many more affordable brand stores available to go and spend your money on. But for me entering the Galleria was one of the highlights of our trip. The architecture itself against the lights flowing in from the glass panels on the roof created an atmosphere that cannot be put into words. One of those places you simply need to see with your own eyes to explain.

  • Castello Sforzesco ja Sempione park. Käisime Sforza lossi ümbrust ning viimase taga asetsevat kaunist Sempione parki imetlemas mõnusal õhtupoolikul, mil päike just loojuma oli hakanud. Kuigi antud ala on ilmselt kaunis ka päevavalguses, soovitaksin viimast võimalusel külastada just sumeda õhtupäikese saatel.
  •  Castello Sforzesco and Sempione park.We went to explore the surroundings of the Sforza castle quite late in the evening, just when the sun started to set. Even though the castle and the park behind it are both beautiful to look at also in the daylight, I would recommend to visit the area accompanied by the evening sun. Our small walk in the greenery of the park together with the colourful sky created such an amazing feeling of calm - like a true holiday. Also, we did not have too many people surrounding us, which made the experience completely peaceful.
